AdMob Delays Decision To Shut Off iPhone Ad Aggregators

AdMob has reversed its decision—at least temporarily—to cut off aggregators, which help iPhone application developers fill more ad inventory by connecting to several ad networks at one time, reports MediaPost.

In June, AdMob claimed that complaints of technical glitches related to ads served by “ad net mediators” like AdWhirl and Tapjoy led them to this decision, which faced a ton of public criticism. The big question back then was why AdMob was doing this, and it seemed like while they claimed it was about providing a better user experience, it may have had more to do with protecting market share.

Buried in a blog posted on the company’s site on Wednesday, AdMob wrote: “We have decided to temporarily delay the discontinuation of support for mediation layers until we can introduce a comprehensive plan that meets our publishers’ needs while also continuing to provide advertisers and end users with the best possible experience on mobile.”
